There
are few cities in the world that photograph quite as well as New York
and it seems that since the dawn of photography, the people who have
lived in the Big Apple have thought much the same way.
From the city’s iconic skyline, to the graffiti-covered subways, a new documentary, ‘Everybody Street’
showcases the lives and work of New York's iconic street photographers.
There's no better playground for a photographer than a bustling, loud,
dynamic city.
The
film pays homage to some of the original street photographers, some of
whom first hit the sidewalks, camera in hand, almost 90 years ago to
capture the comings and goings of New Yorkers.
‘Street
photography is the hardest photography because you have to think on
your feet,’ claims Mary Ellen Mark, who along with fellow lensmen like
Elliott Erwitt, Bruce Davidson, Jeff Mermelstein, Ricky Powell, and
Jamel Shabazz have been capturing the city on film for decades.
The
film pays tribute to New York’s best-known street photographers,
exploring their careers and influences, and revealing them to be as
entertaining and unforgettable as the images they create.
