"From the Bronx to Dealey Plaza, Garry Winogrand pounded the streets of
America every day of his life photographing reluctant subjects – and he
left behind 6,500 undeveloped films when he died. A powerful new
retrospective makes sense of the torrent of imagery by the prolific
American master.
“When I’m photographing I see life. That’s what I deal with,” Garry Winogrand
once said. Life, for him, was the energy of the street in all its
unruly momentum. In the 1960s and 70s, he defined street photography as
an attitude as well as a style – and it has laboured in his shadow ever
since, so definitive are his photographs of New York. "

The 50 Greatest Street Photographers Right Now /by Jennifer Wood/
The proliferation of Instagram-ready smartphones has been both a boon
and a detriment to the art of street photography. On one hand, it has
brought about a renewed interest in the innovators and pioneers of the
genre—people like Eugène Atget, who is widely considered the godfather
of the genre, or Henri Cartier-Bresson, who had a knack for catching
people at the exact moment they did something interesting. On the other
hand, it has convinced many wannabe shooters that anyone with a working
cell phone and a decent filtering app has the ability to capture
something beautiful. And maybe they’re right. But it doesn’t change the
fact that there’s an art to this art, and that some folks are just more in tune with the rhythm of street photography than others.
Compiling any sort of “list” is always a challenging task, as the nature
of being constrained by a number will inevitably mean that plenty of
deserving talents will be left off (at least for this year). And when it
comes to the 50 photographers featured here, we aimed to be as
all-encompassing as possible; no restrictions were set in terms of
geography, age, style, or experience. The only adamant criterion is that
the artist is currently contributing to the craft.

Elliott Erwitt is the photographer who notices details that most people miss, situations before they occur. “There is really nothing mysterious about photography”, Elliott explains. “It’s about observing. Often it’s a matter of luck and circumstance. Hopefully I haven’t taken my best picture yet.”
The
exhibition at Fotografiska offers our visitors a unique opportunity for
to acquaint themselves with one of the world’s most acclaimed
photographers and see what he has captured. So far.
Today his images can be seen in museums and important collections all
over the world. But he has not slowed down; he continues to do
commercial work and take pictures for new books. So far he has produced
some 45 titles. “I like to see my photos in books. It’s an acknowledgement of my work.”
“I
want to evoke emotion with my photographs, to make people either laugh
or cry. If you can achieve that I think you’ve done well”, Elliott Erwitt explains.

Na wystawie zaprezentujemy ok. 60 najciekawszych fotografii z gatunku Street photography, powstałych w czasie warsztatów. Myślą przewodnią wystawy jest uchwycenie warszawskich momentów, sytuacji, miejsc, niekoniecznie będących „do pary" …

8 Greek photographers call upon us to see the road in a different way.
The last years the photo road in Greece has started to become more and
more impact on the world photographic community. THE BOX gallery is
hosting a photo exhibition ”Greek Street” and presents eight contemporary representatives of street photography.
Photographers included in the exhibition from our collective are : Dimitri Mellos, Lukas Vasilikos and Andreas Paradise.
During the exhibition will be a street photography workshop by Andreas Paradise.

Medhi: Today’s society is definitely over equipped/
flooded with many different types and genres of technological gadgets
for all sort of necessities. Photography has become an essential tool of
proof and evidence, showing, duplicating a moment and emotion by
capturing the exact frame, reflecting it, and documenting it all at
once.

It is a shame that only a minority of enthusiasts have awakened to
explore, document every emotion, segment of reality and life in a
creative sense to bring us closer together, to share our love in a
sentimental picture, and in a matter of established fact.

They are only some of the questions Damian Chrobak (doc! #13) - founder and the key person of un-posed, the most known Polish street photography collective - answered.

They are only some of the questions Damian Chrobak (doc! #13) - founder and the key person of un-posed, the most known Polish street photography collective - answered.
The doc! talks meetings are organised in collaboration with the Institute of Reportage Foundation. Their aim is to promote contemporary photojournalism and documentary photography.
