Eyes in progress - Social Documentary workshop with Tomasz Gudzowaty

Tomasz Gudzowaty

Photographer Tomasz Gudzowaty hosts a social documentary workshop at Eyes in Progress in Paris from 14 until 17 May. Gudzowaty began his photographic career with nature photography, later turning to social documentary. For the past few years he has focused on sports photography and is particularly interested in non-commercial sports. His work has been published in Max Magazine, L’Equipe, The Guardian, Newsweek, Forbes, Time, Photo, British Journal of Photography and Spook Magazine. Gudzowaty has won many of the profession’s premier contests, including nine previous World Press Photo awards, as well as Pictures of the Year and NPPA Best of Photojournalism awards. 

The workshop is open to professional photographers, advanced amateurs and journalists.
Applications will be open until April 14th, 2014

Zapraszamy na wernisaż długo oczekiwanej wystawy Kacpra Kowalskiego, laureata World Press Photo, fotografa i lotnika. Na wystawie, obok zdjęć dobrze znanych, można będzie obejrzeć premierowe fotografie w imponujących powiększeniach.

Wernisażowi towarzyszyć będzie premiera albumu.

„Najbardziej interesują mnie punkty styku cywilizacji z naturą” - mówi Kowalski. „To tam dzieją się ciekawe rzeczy: zaburzenie harmonii, powstawanie nowych form”. „Efekty Uboczne" to podniebna podróż do źródła trudnych relacji pomiędzy człowiekiem a środowiskiem. Kowalski pokazuje, jak ludzie zmieniają środowisko, w którym żyją i jak ono się przed tym broni.

Kacper Kowalski z zawodu architekt, specjalizuje się w fotografii z lotu ptaka i jest obecnie jednym z najlepszych na świecie lotników-fotografów. Zdjęcia wykonuje z pokładu wiatrakowca. Pokazuje niedostępne na co dzień naturalne pejzaże i krajobrazy miejskie. Zdobył nagrody takie jak World Press Photo w 2009 roku w kategorii „Arts and Entertainment”, Grand Press Photo, International Photography Award, National Geograhic, Sony World Photography Award.

Opening reception: Kacper Kowalski, “Side Effects”
10.01. – 04.02.2014 Leica Gallery

Please join us for the opening reception of the long-awaited exhibition Kacper Kowalski, “Side Effects.” Kowalski, the winner of World Press Photo, a photographer and a pilot, next to his well known and widely acclaimed works, will present new photographs, all in striking formats.

The opening reception will be accompanied by Kowalski’s photobook premiere.

“What interest me the most are intersection points of society and nature – says Kowalski – it is where interesting things happen: disorder in harmony, emergence of new forms.” “Side Effects” presents a sky-high journey to the core of the complicated human-nature relationship. Kowalski demonstrates how human race changes the environment and how the nature fights back against this influence.

With a degree in architecture, Kowalski focuses on aerial photography. He is nowadays one of world’s best pilot photographers; taking his shots from a paraglider he captures previously unseen natural environments and normally inaccessible cityscapes. However, these are not merely pretty pictures.
“When flying, I cannot build a relationship with people the way it is in classical photography. I look at forests, fields and lakes. I look at natural catastrophes and I watch people taking rest – what I see is a portrait of civilization.”
For his images he’s received numerous awards, including the World Press Photo award in 2009 (Arts and Entertainment category), Grand Press Photo award, International Photography Award (IPA), Sony World Photography Award.

14 Instagram Photojournalists Who Will Open Your Eyes to the World

David Guttenfelder, an Associated Press photographer and seven-time World Press Photo award winner, was just named TIME's Instagram photographer of the year. In 2013, on assignment for the AP, Guttenfelder traveled to North Korea, where his Instagram photography offered a rare glimpse into the inner life of a nation normally obscured from public view. He has also photographed the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines as well as quaint pastoral scenes from rural America.

 

In this photograph, Guttenfelder captures a group of North Korean seamstresses at the Sonbong Textile Factory inside the Rason Special Economic Zone. "Nobody knows anything about [North Korea] and what it looks like," Guttenfelder told TIME of his tenure. "I feel like there's a big opportunity and a big responsibility."
