The Exit Photography Group Collection via Grain

The Library recently acquired a collection of over 250 vintage prints from Exit Photography Group: a collective of British Photographers formed in 1973 that included Nicholas Battye, Paul Trevor and Chris Steele-Perkins.  The Collection relates to the group’s project for an exhibition and book Survival Programmes: In Britain’s Inner Cities (1982) which documented important social issues including poverty, unemployment, poor housing and racism between 1974 and 1979 in the cities of London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Glasgow and Belfast. The prints are a gift from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation who funded the original project.
