It’s that time of year again! RayKo’s plastic camera competition is open to artists working with plastic cameras with plastic lenses. The more obsolete, flawed, and lo-tech, the better. Images should be taken with cameras with limited controls, such as Diana, Holga, Lubitel, Lomo, Banner, and Ansco cameras. Beautiful prints from less-than- gorgeous cameras – that’s what we’re looking for! This is RayKo’s largest exhibition of the year with artists from all over the globe submitting work, and hundreds of attendees at the reception.

Elliott Erwitt exhibition - Fotografiska/Sweden

© Elliott Erwitt USA-Bakersfield-California-1983
December 6 - March 2, 2014
Fotografiska
Stadsgårdshamnen 22
116 45 Stockholm

Elliott Erwitt is the photographer who notices details that most people miss, situations before they occur. “There is really nothing mysterious about photography”, Elliott explains. “It’s about observing. Often it’s a matter of luck and circumstance. Hopefully I haven’t taken my best picture yet.”
The exhibition at Fotografiska offers our visitors a unique opportunity for to acquaint themselves with one of the world’s most acclaimed photographers and see what he has captured. So far.

Today his images can be seen in museums and important collections all over the world. But he has not slowed down; he continues to do commercial work and take pictures for new books. So far he has produced some 45 titles. “I like to see my photos in books. It’s an acknowledgement of my work.

I want to evoke emotion with my photographs, to make people either laugh or cry. If you can achieve that I think you’ve done well”, Elliott Erwitt explains.

Subtelne i zmysłowe autoportrety dwudziestolatki - Melania Brescia

Fot. Melania Brescia

Melania Brescia, 20-latka pochodząca z Malagi w Hiszpanii, tworzy intymne autoportrety, pełne życia i emocji.

Wykonywanie autoportretów to sprawdzona droga do pokazania swojego prawdziwego ja.

Creating Neon Poetry With a Patient Camera

The New York School street photographer Saul Leiter is the subject of Tomas Leach’s “In No Great Hurry.”

‘In No Great Hurry,’ a Documentary About Saul Leiter,

That’s largely because of Mr. Leiter’s almost pathological modesty, as Tomas Leach’s documentary, “In No Great Hurry: 13 Lessons in Life With Saul Leiter,” amply demonstrates. “My own achievements are rather minor,” Mr. Leiter, seated in his cluttered East Village apartment, insists genially, questioning the need for a film. Half-jokingly, he says that if he doesn’t like it, he won’t allow its release.
“In No Great Hurry” is not a rigorous examination of Mr. Leiter’s art. Instead, between conversations, it floats some of his most ethereal, lustrous images, soft, layered scenes that glow with a watercolor’s warmth, sharp departures from the gritty cityscapes of his contemporaries. His best work seems both of the moment and timeless.

George Chamoun - Iconatomy

© George Chamoun

George Chamoun is an artist and art student living and working in Stockholm, Sweden. Studying at two preparatory schools, he came to the conclusion that his interest lies in working with the body in different ways. While working mostly in 3D nowadays, his love for paper collages and print matter will always be present in his artistry.

He created the Iconatomy series of images as an investigation in the beauty ideals of the movie world. These are collages of two movie stars or icons from two different eras, merged together to form one face, one ideal image.

Drugiego zostawiłem pechowo w "stopie" i przepadł. Zaangażowałem się w studia i pracę społeczną, to były początki transformacji. Byłem w NZS-ie, to mnie wtedy mocno zajmowało, fotografia zeszła na trzeci plan. Oczywiście dziś tego żałuję, mogłem zostać fotografem NZS-u, mało kto z nas robił wtedy zdjęcia.
